Kanchenjunga is a naturally stunning area with excellent geographical features ranging from subtropical to glacier region; Himalayan peaks above 7000m and ever growing varied flora and fauna. Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m), the third highest mountain in the world, popularly known as the queen of the mountains is situated at the Nepal-Sikkim border. The massive Kanchenjunga glacier is the remarkable trait of the region. The magnificent mountain lies above the rhododendron forests with river flowing from its sides. Kanchenjunga is the magnet of the new trekking trails: Pathibhara and Limbu cultural trails that give the opportunity to experience the Himalayan culture and lifestyle. Limbus are the prevailing occupant of the Kanchenjunga region, with the upper area of the region settled by Tibetans, Sherpas, Rais, Gurungs, Magars, Newar, Sunwars and Tamangs of Tibetan-Mongolian orient. Cardamom farming, agriculture, animal husbandry and tourism are the major source of subsistence in the region. The attractive feature of the journey is trekking forth the sacred shrine, alpine meadows, rocky outcrops, extreme temperature, subtropical forests and low river fields and with its diverse ecology, the world’s largest pure rhododendron forest flourishes in the region with the utmost number of species in the planet. There should be minimum 2 people in a group in the trek per the rule of the Government of Nepal. The entire trek in Kanchenjunga which encloses the Milke Danda ridge (trekking route exceeding 4/5 days from Basantapur) with North as well as South base camp, the 5 great passes in ‘Mirgin La’ route (approximately 4660m) or ‘Lapsang La’ route (approximately 5110 m) with the shortest distance between the two requires at least 26 to 30 days of trekking.
