Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the “Classic Route to Everest” which begins after taking road trial from Kathmandu to Jiri. The trek is quite longer than another trek in Everest Region. This trial was used by the pioneer Everest mountaineers who went to expedition in Everest which is almost 60 years ago. Doing this trek travelers can observe the culture, landscape and nature of lower regions of Khumbu region as well. During this trek we can explore the lower part of Khumbu as well as other must visit destination of Everest. The 23 days, ‘Jiri to Everest Base Camp’ is an ultimate Himalayan adventure where travelers seek to explore the stunning landscapes and rich culture of the Everest region. Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek begins after taking 7-8 hours’ drive to Jiri and then trek to Deurali, Sete, Junbeshi, Nunthala and Paiya which are the lower parts of this Everest trek. From Paiya we ascend towards Phakding and begin to follow the regular trial of Everest Gokyo Chola Pass Trek. On the way we walk through the Rhododenron, pine forests and explore around Rai and Sherpa community. As we reach normal routes, we trek via Namche Bazar, Dole, Machermo, Gokyo. Gokyo is one of the important destinations from where we can hike to Gokyo Ri (5360 m) and then from here we trek to Thagnang and then cross Chola Pass (5330 m) and then continue towards Gorakshep. Gorakshep is the end point where there are lodges and from here, we can hike to Everest Base Camp (5380 m) and Kalapathar (5545 m), which is the highest point of the trek.  

 

The most favorable time for the Everest Base Camp - Gokyo - Chola Pass trek is from March to mid-May (Spring) and mid-September to November (Autumn). These seasons offer clear skies, stable weather conditions, and optimal trekking conditions for a safe and enjoyable journey.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is 23 days trek in total including arrival and trekking days. During Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek travelers will have to walk about 5 -7 hours a day. Trip itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our correspondent who will assist with your transfer to the hotel. Once checked in, you can relax and acclimate to the altitude, spending the rest of the day at your leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

This day we will have breakfast in the early morning and then prepare to begin our journey to Bhandara via Jiri. We will drive from Kathmandu to Bhandara via Jiri which is in the eastern mountain range. During the drive we can see view of Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Lirung, Langtang and more enjoying uphill and downhill drive. It takes about 10 hours (216 km) in private vehicle to reach village of Bhandara. We can visit around Monastery, government school and coffee farming in the village of Bhandara. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning and then begin our first day of trek to Sete which takes about 7 hours. We have to walk uphill for about 3.5 hours to reach Kinja (1630m) and we will have lunch there. From Kinja we will cross Kinja Khola and then walk another 3.5 hours on straight uphill trial to reach Sete. Stay overnight at the lodge. Today we will be passing through the Rhododendron Forest and some villages to reach Sete. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning and then begin to trek towards Junbeshi which takes about 7 hours. At beginning we walk uphill trial for about 4 hours and reach Lamjura Pass (3530 m). We can see beautiful views of Pikey Peak, Meara Peak, Gaurisanker and so on. After having lunch in Lamjura Pass we will start to descend through the Rhododendron Forest for about 3 hours to reach Junbesi. Junbesi is a beautiful settlement of Sherpa people, as we reach here, we can explore around monastery, and sherpa village. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning we trek towards Nunthala which takes about 8 hours. Today will be quite longer day than before but not so hard. At first, we will walk straight ascending trial for about 3.5 until we reach Ringmu village (2720m). We can have lunch here and then rest for a while and again walk uphill trial for another 1 hour until we reach Taksindu (2960 m). From here, we can see amazing views of Mera Peak if weather is clear. We can explore around Tibetan Monastery here in Taksindu and then again walk another 3.5 hours descending trial until we reach Nunthala. Nunthana is also a local village with the settlement of Sherpa, Rai and Limbu. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning we trek towards Bupsa via Paiya which takes about 7 hours. We begin our trek by walking through descending trial for about 3 hours and reach Dudh Koshi River and cross suspension bridge and then start walking uphill trial for about 2 hours Khari Khola, have lunch there and rest for a while. Khari Khola is one of the big village of Sherpa community and here we can see Tibetan monastery, locals and people engaged in terraced farming and so on. From Khari Khola we again walk ascending and straight trial for another 2 hours to reach Bupsa. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning and then start walking towards Chheplung which takes about 7 hours. We will walk straight uphill trial on Rhododendron and bamboo forest until for about 1 hour until Tham Danda. From here, we walk zig zag trial for another in same forest way for about 4.5 hours until we reach Surke. We will have lunch in Surke, rest for a while and then again start trekking towards Chheplung which takes about 2.5 hours. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning and then start walking towards Namche Bazzar which takes about 7 hours. We will walk zigzag trial for about 2.5 hours until we reach Phakding. From Phakding, we follow the modern trek route of Everest – Gokyo Chola Pass trek and start walking zigzag trial until we reach Namche Bazar. As we head towards Namche, we pass through Monjo where there is National Park permit counter. On the way to Namche, we can see first glimpse of mountains like: Kusum Kangru, Thamserku and so on. Namche Bazar is a beautiful town of Everest having monastery, and many markets for shopping. We will be amazed by the first glimpse of Namche Bazar as we reach there. Stay overnight at lodge.

Today will be the acclimatization day in Namche Bazar. As trekking in higher elevations can lead to altitude sickness, we have to make sure to acclimatize so that our body can adapt with increasing elevation. 
In the morning, we will have breakfast in the hotel and get ready to hike for about 4 hours to the monastery above Namche Bazar, then after we will go to Syangboche and Khumjung village and finally to the luxurious hotel at highest altitude: Hotel Everest View. From the hotel, we can see first view of Mount Everest, and other beautiful Himalayas like: Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Lhotse, Mount Nuptse and so on. 

Today’s hike will serve us for acclimatization and where we will enjoy magnificent views of Everest. As we return back to Namche Bazar, in the afternoon we will have free time to wander around and visit the markets, purchase trekking equipment’s (if needed), local handicrafts and so on around Namche Bazar. Stay overnight at Lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning. We will start by walking through the straight uphill trials until we reach Mongla Pass (3972 m) which takes about 3 hours. This is a wonderful place and from where we can see the beautiful view of Mount Amadablam and the Tengboche Monastery. Here we will stop for a while to acclimatize, and continue to descent to Phortse Tenga for about 1 hour. From there we will have to walk ascending uphill trial for about 2-3 hours to reach Dole. On the way we can see the yaks passing by, waterfalls, cross small wooden bridges. Stay overnight at Lodge.

This day we will have breakfast in the morning and head toward Machermo. As soon as we leave Dole we will have to walk through the steep climb up to 4000 m from where we can see view of Dole and landscape nearby. Then after we will pass through the towns of Labharma and Luza until will reach Machermo after walking for four and half hour. On the way we can see beautiful view of mountains. Stay overnight at Lodge.

After taking breakfast we will head towards Gokyo from Machermo. We will continue to the Gokyo walking through some straight and ascending trials. We can see beautiful views of Himalayas on the way and cross some small bridges too. And before we reach Gokyo we see the 1st Gokyo Lake and then from there we walk straight trial for about 1 hour and reach Gokyo valley. 
We have to pass through the Gokyo lake to reach lodge in Gokyo. We will have lunch in Gokyo and then we can explore around the glacier and lakes in the afternoon. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Today in the early morning we will wake up to trek to Gokyo Ri (5360 m). We will have to walk straight uphill trials for 3-4 hours to reach Gokyo Ri. Upon reaching Gokyo Ri we can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the Himalayas, like Mount Everest, Mount Makalu, Mount Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and so on. After enjoying the view in Gokyo Ri, we will descend to Gokyo. We will have breakfast in Gokyo and rest for a while. After taking breakfast we will continue the trek to Thagnang. We will have to walk Little uphill and then descend and walk through the glaciers trials for about 40 minutes and then again walk uphill and straight trials to reach Thagnang. Stay overnight at Lodge.

This day is very important. We will wake up in the early morning and have our breakfast. Then we start the trek with a steep climb, and after walking about 1.5 hours we reach a pass at 5000 m from where we can see the Chola Pass. We continue climbing 3 hours and if the snow allows then we will pass the Chola Pass, (5330 m) from where we will see the Choyu and many mountains of more than 7000 m. After resting for a while in Chola Pass we will descend through a long valley until we reach Dzonglha. Stay overnight at Lodge.

After having breakfast in Dzongla we will start trekking to Gorakshep, which is the final destination to reach Kalapathar and Everest Base Camp. We can see mesmerizing close view of mountain on the right side of Dzongla. We begin to trek for about 2.5 hours walking through the uphill trials to reach Lobuche. We will rest for a while in Lobuche and from there we will continue our trek to Gorakshep. We continue up the trek from left bank of the glacier until we reach Gorakshep. From Lobuche, we will have to walk uphill for about 1 hour and then walk through the rocky ways for about 1.5 hours to reach Gorakshep. Stay overnight at Lodge.

This is the great day of the Everest trek, in which we will enjoy, if the weather permits, the best views of Everest and its surroundings. We will go to Kala Patthar (translated by "Black Stone"), we will climb the 400 meters that separate us from the top. The views, both of the Everest massif and the south face of the Pumori, are spectacular. We will return to GorakShep, for breakfast and after a break, continue to Everest base camp. This day we will go down and spend the night in Lobuche. Stay overnight at Lodge. 

After taking breakfast in Lobuche we will head towards Tengboche. The route descends from Dingboche to the Imja Khola Valley, then we will cross a wooden bridge and the path turns upwards until we reach Tengboche. We will take advantage of this day to visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, an emblematic place of local Buddhist culture. We can visit it in the afternoon and meet the lama who live in it. Stay overnight at Lodge.

This day we will have breakfast and start the day with beautiful views of Everest and Lhotse. The trek begins with a steep descent until crossing the river in the town of Phumki. We continue going up to Namche Bazar which takes about 3 hours. We will go to Namche Baza and explore around there. Stay overnight at Lodge.

This day after having breakfast, we will continue along the path that we already know until Phakding.We will have lunch in Phakding and from there we will continue through the zig zig trial to reach Lukla. Stay overnight at Lodge.

We will take a flight from Tenzing Hillary Airport (an "eagle's nest") to fly to Kathmandu. The time of the flight will depend on the weather conditions. Arrival in Kathmandu and you can rest whole day. Stay overnight at hotel.
