  • Use both hands when giving or receiving items as a sign of respect in Nepali culture.
  • Avoid public displays of affection in conservative and rural areas.
  • Be mindful of local customs and traditions, especially during festivals or religious events.

Following these simple guidelines helps travellers connect more respectfully with Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and local communities.

Responsible Tourism

Travelers visiting Nepal are encouraged to practice responsible tourism by supporting local communities and contributing to the local economy. This can be done by choosing locally owned hotels, restaurants, guides, and purchasing handmade products from local artisans. Such choices help ensure that tourism directly benefits the people who live in the destinations being visited.

It is equally important to respect Nepal’s natural environment and cultural heritage. Visitors should avoid littering, minimize the use of single-use plastics, and carry reusable items whenever possible. While exploring trekking routes and natural areas, staying on designated trails and avoiding disturbance to wildlife helps preserve the fragile ecosystem.

Respecting local customs and traditions is also a key part of responsible travel. Dressing modestly, following cultural etiquette, and being mindful in religious and rural areas ensures positive interactions with local communities and helps maintain Nepal’s rich cultural identity for future generations.
