This day after having breakfast we will begin our hiking to Changunarayan temple, which takes about 3-4 hours hike. On the way to Chagunarayan Temple we can visit picturesque typical local villages, paddy fields, and a breathtaking vista of the Kathmandu Valley.

  1. Changunarayan: This temple is one of the oldest Hindu temples, located on a hilltop near Bhaktapur, close to Kathmandu and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this sacred temple is renowned for its ancient architecture, intricate stone and wood carvings, and deep historical significance. The origins of the temple date back to the 4th century during the Licchavi period, making it widely considered the oldest surviving Hindu temple in Nepal. The stone pillar inscription dated 464 AD is among the oldest known inscriptions in Nepal. The temple courtyard features ancient stone sculptures of Garuda, Vishnu avatars such as Narasimha and Vishvarupa, and carvings from various historical periods. Thus, it is a classic Nepali pagoda-style temple with detailed wooden struts, stone statues, and traditional craftsmanship making it a timeless treasure of Nepal’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

Note: Guests who prefer not to hike to Changunarayan can travel there by vehicle, join the hiking group at the temple, and then continue the return journey together back to Bhaktapur.
