Baraha Pokhari (3100 m) – A Peaceful and Sacred Lake

Baraha Pokhari is a beautiful and sacred lake located at about 3,100 meters in the Lamjung district of Nepal. Surrounded by forests, hills, and views of the Lamjung Himal, this quiet lake is a special place for both nature lovers and pilgrims.

The lake is named after Baraha (Varaha), an avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu. Local people believe the god lives in the lake and gives blessings. Many villagers visit during festivals like Janai Purnima to offer prayers and worship.

The area around the lake is peaceful and filled with natural beauty. In spring, the trail is covered with blooming rhododendron flowers, and you can often see snow-capped mountains in the distance. Colorful prayer flags flutter around the lake, adding to its spiritual feel.

It is a peaceful and untouched place, with Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, Machapuchare (Fishtail), Himalchuli, Manaslu, and even Ngadi Chuli (Peak 29) visible on clear days. From the lake, we climbed even higher to the surrounding ridges, and the view from the top is truly mesmerizing, with green hills rolling below and snowy peaks all around. The trail crosses several hills, offering wide-open views and a sense of freedom.

The area is very quiet and less crowded, making it perfect for those looking to get away from busy trekking routes. Since there are no lodges, we had to camp, and it felt like a real adventure. However, there’s a scarcity of water, so it’s important to carry enough water and fill up at any spring you find along the way.

Baraha Pokhari is a quiet and remote destination. It’s perfect for trekkers who want to enjoy nature, local culture, and peaceful surroundings away from the busy tourist routes.
