Ruby Valley Trek – An Untouched Trail Between Langtang & Manaslu

Ruby Valley Trek - 12 Days is a hidden treasure located in central Nepal. It lies between two popular trekking areas: the Langtang Valley to the east and the Manaslu region to the west. The trek falls within the Ganesh Himal region, named after the stunning Ganesh Himal mountain range. This area is known for its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, and peaceful trails. Unlike the crowded trekking routes in Everest or Annapurna, Ruby Valley offers a quiet and remote experience.

During Ruby Valley Trekking you will be mesmerized with the views of amazing snow-covered mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Manaslu, and even parts of the Annapurna range. You will walk through rhododendron forests, pine woods, alpine meadows, and cross small rivers and wooden bridges. During spring, the forests bloom with red and pink rhododendrons, and the sky is often clear. Wildlife such as langurs, musk deer, and many birds can also be seen along the trail.

One of the best parts of Ruby Valley Trekking itinerary is the chance to meet local people along with getting close to nature. The area is home to Tamang, Gurung, and Dalit communities. These ethnic groups have their own unique traditions, clothes, music, and foods. Most nights, you will stay in local homestays, where you’ll eat home-cooked Nepali meals and experience real village life. You'll also visit Buddhist monasteries, small temples, and chortens (prayer monuments). This cultural exchange is warm, friendly, and genuine.

Ruby Valley Trek is moderaly difficult, making suitable for people with a basic level of fitness. The trails are not too steep or high, but there are some long walking days. The highest point is Pangsang Pass (3,842 meters), which offers wide views of the Himalayas. Since the trek includes both uphill and downhill walking, it's good to do some walking or hiking before your trip. No technical climbing is required.

If you want to see Nepal’s mountains and villages in their most natural and untouched state, the Ruby Valley Trekking in Langtang & part of Manaslu is perfect trekking destintion in Nepal. The trek is not crowded, supports community tourism, and lets you explore Nepal beyond the tourist routes. You’ll return with new friends, unforgettable views, and a deep appreciation for local culture and mountain life.

After your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), our correspondent will be there to welcome you to the Himalayan country. We will pick up you in private vehicle and transfer to hotel. After your arrival we will be briefing you and help you prepare for the trek. Overnight at hotel.

Today we will drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi which takes about 5-6 hours’ drive. We will have breakfast in the morning, and then get ready to depart from the hotel.

We will leave hotel around 7 or 8 am in the morning and then drive north through beautiful hills to reach Syabrubesi, passing through the town called Dhunche (our trek ending point) on the way. Stay overnight at lodge in Syabru Besi.

Syabrubesi is a small town situated within Langtang National Park and gateway for Langtang Valley Trekking & Tamang Heritage Trail Trek. Nestled at 1460 meter, Syabrubesi is 95 kilometers from Kathmandu which can be reached within 5-6 hours. Syabru lies in the bottom of a hill and the banks of Trishuli river, white-water rafting river.Overnight at lodge in Syabrubesi.

Today after having breakfast in the morning, prepare to trek towards Gatlang which takes about 5-6 hours of walking.

The trek begings with steady ascending trail for next 2.5 hours along the forested hills and passing through traditional Tamang settlements. Along the way, trekkers are treated to beautiful views of Ganesh Himal and the Langtang range. Also you get to meet local tamang people and community (one of the ethnic groups of Nepal). Gatlang is a charming village rich in Tamang culture, with distinctive stone houses and traditional hospitality. Overnight at a lodge in Gatlang.

Today’s trek takes you from the peaceful village of Gatlang to the remote and scenic valley of Somdang. The trail begins with a gentle walk through terraced fields and pine forests, gradually climbing uphill as you leave the villages behind and enter more wild and natural surroundings.

You’ll pass by Parvati Kunda, a small sacred lake where locals sometimes perform religious rituals. It’s a good place to rest and take photos. After the lake, the trail becomes steeper and more remote as you trek through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo.

As you continue climbing, you’ll see occasional mountain views of Ganesh Himal and nearby peaks. You may also come across old copper mines, which were once used by locals but are now abandoned.

Eventually, you reach Somdang, a quiet and lesser-visited place surrounded by forest and hills. There are a few simple lodges here where you’ll spend the night. Overnight at lodge in Somdang

Today is one of the most exciting and scenic days of the Ruby Valley Trek. The trek begins with a gradual but steady uphill climb from Somdang to the top of Pangsang Pass (3,842 m), the highest point of the entire trek. The trail winds through quiet forests and open hillsides, offering stunning views along the way.

As you reach the top of the pass, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu, and even parts of the Annapurna range on clear days. There’s also a viewpoint with prayer flags where you can rest, take photos, and enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere.

After spending some time at the pass, you begin a long descent toward Tipling, a large Tamang village located at about 2,087 meters. The trail down can be steep in sections, passing through forested areas, small streams, and scattered farms.

Once you arrive in Tipling, you’ll be welcomed by the local community and stay in a basic homestay or teahouse. The village is rich in culture and offers a unique look into rural life in the Himalayas. You can explore the area, visit a local monastery, or just relax after a challenging but rewarding day. Overnight stay at teahouse.

Today’s trek is shorter and easier, giving you time to rest and enjoy the local culture. You’ll start the day by descending from Tipling through terraced fields, pine forests, and traditional villages. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills and farmlands.

After a gentle walk of 3 to 4 hours, you’ll reach Shertung, a charming village inhabited mainly by Tamang and Gurung communities. The name “Shertung” means “place of gold,” and the area is known for its warm hospitality and cultural richness.

Once you arrive, you can relax, explore the village, and interact with locals. You may also visit a nearby monastery or enjoy a peaceful sunset over the hills. Overnight at a local homestay or simple lodge.

Today is a rest and acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the altitude. You’ll spend the morning relaxing in Shertung, enjoying the peaceful village atmosphere.

In the afternoon, take a gentle walk (about 3 to 4 hours) to explore the nearby Chalish Gaun, a traditional Tamang village known for its beautiful houses and friendly people. On the way, you can visit a natural hot spring, a perfect spot to soak your tired muscles and refresh yourself.

This day allows you to experience local culture, enjoy nature, and prepare your body for the upcoming trekking days ahead. It’s a nice balance of rest and gentle exploration. Overnight at lodge in Shertung.

Today, you’ll trek from Shertung to the peaceful village of Lapa Gaun, following a gentle trail through forests, farmland, and small settlements. The path is mostly downhill or flat, making it a comfortable walking day.

Along the way, you’ll pass through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests, and have chances to see local wildlife and birds. The trail also offers lovely views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

Lapa Gaun is a quiet village to experience traditional village life and enjoy the calm natural surroundings. Overnight stay at lodge.

Today’s trek takes you from Lapa Gaun to Jharlang, a scenic village located in the valley. The trail is mostly gentle, passing through forests, terraced fields, and small villages along the way.

You’ll enjoy peaceful nature views and get another chance to experience local rural life as you walk through traditional Tamang and Gurung communities. The path is well-marked and comfortable for most trekkers.

Once you arrive in Jharlang, it’s a quiet village with friendly locals and beautiful surroundings. You can relax at your lodge and prepare for the next day’s journey.

On the final day of trekking, you’ll hike from Jharlang to Darkha Gaun, which is located at around 850 meters and takes about 4/5h. The trail gently descends through forested paths and small villages, offering peaceful views of the surrounding hills and farmland.

After reaching Darkha Gaun, you will meet your vehicle for a scenic drive to Dhading Besi, a town in the lowlands. From here, you can continue onward to Kathmandu by road or take some rest before your transfer. Overnight at hotel.

On the final day of your trek, you’ll take a drive from Dhading Besi back to Kathmandu. The journey usually takes about 5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

As you drive, you’ll pass through beautiful countryside, small villages, and river valleys, watching the landscape change from hills to the bustling Kathmandu Valley. This drive gives you time to relax and reflect on your trek.

Once you arrive in Kathmandu, you can check into your hotel, rest, or explore the city before your onward journey. This marks the end of your Ruby Valley Trek experience. Overnight at hotel.

Difficulty Level of Ruby Valley Trek

The Ruby Valley Trek is considered Moderate graded trek, suitable for both beginners with good fitness and experienced trekkers seeking a more remote adventure. It doesn't involve extreme altitudes or technical climbing, but the remote trails and daily walking hours still present a fair physical challenge.

Here are key points to understand the difficulty level:

  • Altitude: The highest point on the trek is around 3,850 meters (Pangsang Pass), which is relatively moderate and helps reduce the risk of severe altitude sickness.
  • Walking Duration: You’ll walk for 5 to 7 hours a day, depending on the section, with some steep ascents and descents through rugged terrain.
  • Trail Conditions: The paths are mostly unpaved and can be muddy, rocky, or slippery, especially during monsoon or winter seasons.
  • Remoteness: The region is less developed than mainstream trekking routes, with basic infrastructure. This adds to the adventure but also means you must be more self-reliant and well-prepared.
  • No Technical Skills Needed: You don’t need climbing experience or specialized gear—just good trekking shoes, a reasonable level of fitness, and a willingness to walk multiple days through nature and villages.

With proper acclimatization, a steady pace, and basic preparation, most healthy individuals can complete the Ruby Valley Trek and enjoy its natural beauty and cultural richness.
