Langtang Trekking: Tamang Hospitality, Glaciers & Peaks

Langtang Valley Trek is considered to be one of the most magnificent trekking destinations of Nepal where we get to explore the beautiful vistas of Langtang Himalayan range, native hidden culture, diverse flora, fauna and wilderness (if lucky) of Langtang National Park. Langtang Trekking is less crowded as well as shortest and easy trek which can be done from Kathmandu. Just within 6 hours drive from Kathmandu we reach Syabrubesi which is closer to Tibet border – Kerung.

The Langtang trek offers not only the views of mountains but also the hospitality of Tamang – Tibetan culture with the dominance of more than 80% Tamang people. During Langtang Valley trek in Nepal we get to see the different version of lifestyle as compared to other regions, here the people are warm, welcoming and observe beautiful blend of Tibetan and Tamang culture. In every lodge we get to see a kind respect to Buddhist culture and praying. Here we get to explore distinct language, people wearing cultural dress and social manners. The Tamang language of this regions is originated from the Tamangic group, which is a part of the Tibeto-Burman language family which is 75% alike to the Gurung language.

Langtang valley is also the home to herds of yaks, which makes the adventure more interesting. In the journey to Langtang trekking, the highest sleeping point of this trek is Kyanjin Gompa (3870 m) from where we hike to Kyanjin Ri (4773 m) and from the top we can see the amazing glaciers like: Langtang Lirung Glacier, Dagpachen Glacier and Yula Glacier.

From the top of Kyanjin Ri (4773 m) or Tserko Ri (4985 m) of Langtang trek, you can see the breathtaking views of of Langtang range: Langtang Ri (6370 m), Langtang Lirung (7245 m), Yala Peak (5520 m), Ganjala Peak, Dorje Lakpa (6966 m) and so on. As we hike during the early morning, we get to see the most beautiful panoramic views of the Himalayas & Langtang trial: Kanja La Pass (5130 m).

Langtang trekking of 10 Days trek typically begins from Syabrubesi & ends in Dunche. From Syabrubesi, trekkers will follow the Langtang River eastward until reaching Kyanjin Gompa, passing through the different villages like: Rimche (2485 m), Lama Hotel (2480 m), Ghoratabela (3030 m) & Langtang Village (3430 m). We will have an extra day in Kyanjin Gompa to climb Kyanjin Ri (4773 m) or Tserko Ri (4985 m), as per the likelihood of travellers.

On April 2015, during the devastating earthquake, Langtang Village was thoroughly destroyed but now, with the strong spirit of locals and help from worldwide and government the whole Langtang village is reborn with new modern lodges, improved trials, enhanced guesthouses as compared to before.

  • If you feel symptoms, rest, don’t ascend further, and inform your guide or group.
  • Do not sleep at a higher altitude if symptoms persist.

A. Medications for altitude sickness:

  • Diamox (Acetazolamide): Prevents and reduces symptoms. Start 1–2 days before reaching high altitude (consult your doctor first).
