Poon Hill and Mardi Himal Trek Detailed Itinerary

The itinerary can be customized according to your duration of holiday. Similarly hotel can be upgraded or downgraded depending on your requirement.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our correspondent who will assist with your transfer to the hotel. Once checked in, we will arrange a pre-trip meeting where we will brief in short about the trek, answer any queries you have and meet your trekking guide as well. After the short brief, you can relax and spend rest of the day at your leisure. Stay overnight at hotel.

Today we will prepare to begin our journey to Pokhara, beautiful city of lakes. In the morning, we will have breakfast at the hotel and then get ready to depart from Kathmandu. We will travel to Pokhara via tourist vehicle which takes about 8-9 hours (200 km). We can explore around lakeside of Pokhara city in the evening. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Note:

  • We have 3 options (flight / private vehicle / tourist bus) to travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara (200 km). It takes 25 minutes by flight, 7-8 hours by private vehicle and 8-9 hours by tourist bus to reach Pokhara.
  • If we take flight to Pokhara (extra cost) then we will have time to explore around Pokhara city and visit the important and must visit monuments.

After having breakfast in hotel, you prepare to begin the trek towards Hille via Nayapul which is 1.5 hours drive to Nayapul and about 4 hours trek to Hille.

After driving for about 1.5 hours, you reach Nayapul which is the entry point for Annapurna Base Camp trekking. From Nayapul you will check your permit, and then prepare to trek towards Hille.

You will be walking straight ascending trial until Hille. Hille is a small beautiful village of Annapurna region where we can see local people and beautiful nature. Stay overnight at lodge in Hille.

After having breakfast prepare to start trekking towards Ghorepani which takes about 6-7 hours of walking.

At beginning, walking about 2 hours you will reach Ulleri, continuing the trek climbing endless stairs. Along the way you can see impressive views of Mount Machhapuchre"fish tail". You will have lunch along the way, reaching Ghorepani. Stay overnight at lodge.

Option:

From Ulleri, we will continue to trek through Nangethanti and to Ghorepani. We can see beautiful views of mountain peaks from Ghorepani such as: Hiunchuli, Tukuche Peak, Dhaulagiri, and the Annapurna peaks, are magnificent.

This day you will wake up early in the morning and then hike to Poonhill which takes about 2 hours. Poon hill is a hill station from where you can see 360-degree views of Himalayas and catch the amazing sunrise in the early morning. From the top, you can see amazing views of Mount Annapurna, Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Machhapuchre, Mount Manaslu, Himchuli, Nilgiri, Lamjung Himal, Tukuche, and many more. After enjoying the scenic view, taking pictures from Poonhill you descend back to Ghorepani.

You will have breakfast after arrival from Poonhill and then get ready to reach next destination, Tadapani which takes about 5 hours. Today you will be walking straight as well as some ascending trial through the Rhododendron and oak forest till you reach Deurali. From Deurali you start to descend along the rhododendron forest till you reach Ban Thanti. From Ban thanti, you will have to walk uphill trial and some steep trial to reach Tadapani.

Tadapani is a beautiful village surrounded by green forests of rhododendron and oak trees. It is mainly home to the Gurung community, where you can see their unique culture and traditions. The village also offers stunning close-up views of Annapurna South, Himchuli, Gangapurna, and other mountains. You’ll stay overnight at a lodge in Tadapani.

Today after having breakfast, you will head towards Landruk via Ghandruk which takes about 5-6 hours of walking.

During spring season the way to Landruk via rhododendron forest looks very beautiful which adds beauty to Mardi Himal Trek. The way to Landruk is zigzag.

As you trek along and reach Ghandruk, you can see beautiful views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchre, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Himchuli and so on. We will have lunch camp in Ghandruk. Ghandruk is immensely popular amongst international as well as domestic tourist from where you can enjoy beautiful views of Himalayas and Gurung community. You can see beautiful views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchre, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Himchuli and so on. Also, you can visit the famous Gurung museum and if interested you can wear ethnic Gurung dress and take pictures and enjoy the scenery. Stay overnight at lodge in Ghandruk.

After resting for a while after lunch in Ghandruk prepare to trek towards Landruk, the destination for today. Passing the small village of Phedi and crossing Modi River you will reach Landruk.

Landruk is beautiful Gurung village surrounded by terraced fields and forested hills providing the amazing vistas of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Stay overnight at lodge in Landruk.

This day you will have breakfast and prepare to head towards Low camp which takes about 6-7 hours of walking.

Today you will leave the trial of Ghorepani Circuit Trek and head towards Mardi Himal Trek. Walking along the forest trial passing through the forest camp on your way to Low Camp. You will have to walk straight ascending trial until along the forest way until we reach Forest Camp. Lunch in forest camp and after that head towards Low Camp which takes about 2 hours from Forest camp. Stay overnight at lodge in Low Camp.

This day you will have breakfast in the morning and prepare to head towards the final desitnation of Mardi Himal Trekking. Today's walk towards High camp will be of about 6 hours some ascending, straight and uphill trials along the way. As you will hike almost 530 meter high altitude, walk slow, drink fluids and acclimatize well.

From Low Camp, walking for about 2.5 horus some straight ascending trial you reach Badal Danda located at an altitude of 2970 meters. If weather permits, you can see stunning views surrounded by clouds (meaning Badal in Nepali). After crossing Badal Danda, the forest thins out adn then you enter towards open alpine landscape and continuing for another 3.5 hours along the narrow ride uhill trial you reach High Camp. 

Upon reaching High Camp you can see magnificent views of Mount Machhapuchre (Fishtail), Annapurna South & Himchuli. This is the last sleeping point of the trek and here, you can also see magical sunsets on the himalayas.Stay overnight at lodge in High Camp.

Today is the most important day of Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek. This day you will wake up early in the morning (around 4-5 am), and prepare to hike towards Mardi Himal Base Camp which takes about 3 hours (5.3 km) of uphill trial. 

Mardi Himal Base Camp offers stunning, close-up views of Mount MachapuchareAnnapurna IAnnapurna South, HimchuliGangapurna and other himalayas. If you hike before sunrise then you can sese mesmerizing views of the sunrise in the mountains from the Base Camp.

After enjoying the view, return back to High Camp which takes about 1.5 hours descending through the same trial and have lunch here. Biding farewell to Mardi Himal and amazing Himalayan memories desnced towards Badal Danda. Badal Danda offers spectacular cloud-layered scenery — often called the “cloud hill.”Stay overnight at lodge in Badal Danda.

On this day, after breakfast, you prepare to bid farewell to Mardi Himal and descend back to the village of Sidhing via Low Camp which takes about 5-6 hours..

Today you walk through the same trial upto Low Camp which takes about 2 hours and and from here you will descend through the dense forest for about 3 hours to reach Sidhing. Sidhing village is a settlement of the Gurung people and here you can see the ancient villages of the Gurung people as well as the agriculture and lifestyle of the people. You will have lunch in Sidhing village and then return back to Pokhara by jeep. It takes around 2.5 to reach Pokhara. Stay overnight at the hotel / resort in Pokhara.

Pokhara is a beautiful city of lakes with amazing views of mountains. Today you have free day in Pokhara, you can visit the beautiful Fewa Lake, Tal Barahi temple located in between Fewa Lake, Gupteshore Cave, David Fall, Seti Gorge, Pokhara International Mountaineering Museum, Bindabasini Temple and Tibetan Refugee Camp while you are in Pokhara.

Or you can go for spa / sound bath / zip line / paragliding / hot air ballon ride / bungee jump and so on activities while you are in Pokhara. Stay overnight at the Hotel / Resort in Pokhara.

This day after having breakfast at the hotel, you will prepare to return back to Kathmandu. You will return back via tourist bus whcih takes about 8-9 hours. Stay overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.

Note:

Again, you will have three options (flight / private vehicle / tourist bus) to return back to Kathmandu. You can choose the favorable option and return back to Kathmandu. It takes 25 minutes by flight, 7-8 hours by private vehicle and 9 hours by tourist bus to reach Kathmandu from Pokhara.

Enjoy your last day in Kathmandu before departure. At your scheduled departure time, our correspondent will pick you up from the hotel, transfer you to the airport, and bid you farewell with warm hearts.

What permits are required for Poon Hill and Mardi Himal Trek in Nepal?

Trekking to Poon Hill and Mardi Himal Trek requires two main permits, as the route lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area. Here's what you’ll need:

  1. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): This is mandatory for all trekkers entering the Annapurna region. It Costs NPR 3,000 (approximately USD 25–30) for foreign nationals / for SAARC nationals - NPR 1,000
  2. Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card: Required for safety and record-keeping of trekkers in the region. It costs NPR 2,000 (approximately USD 17) for individual trekkers (non-SAARC)

Note: The TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card is no longer required for treks in the Mardi Himal Trek as per the latest rules. In such case, only ACAP is enough.

When is the Best Time For Poon Hill and Mardi Himal Trekking In Nepal?
