Permits Required for ABC Trek

Annapurna Base Camp is normal trekking route and for travellers willing to complete this trek require Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) & Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS). These two permits will be issued by the company and then handed over to clients after completion of the trek. These days TIMS are not so much used, incase not needed only 1 permit is enough to do the trek.

Best Time for Nepal ABC Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is doable almost year-round, but certain seasons offer the best weather, visibility, and trail conditions.

Spring (March to May)
Spring is widely regarded as the best overall season for the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek. During this time, the weather is stable with clear skies, offering spectacular visibility of the Annapurna range, including Annapurna I, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli. One of the main reasons for Spring in ABC trek is because of the blooming of vibrant rhododendron forests, which light up the trail with red, pink, and white blossoms. Daytime temperatures are pleasantly warm, especially in the lower altitudes, making trekking more enjoyable. However, this is also the most popular trekking season in Nepal, so you can expect more fellow trekkers on the trail and fuller teahouses — early bookings are advised which will be managed by the company.

Autumn (Mid-September to November)
Autumn is the most popular season for trekking in Nepal as well as Annapurna Base Camp. During Autumn, there is crystal-clear mountain views, fresh air, bright blue skies, and the visibility of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges is at its best. The weather remains dry and stable, with comfortable trekking temperatures during the day and cool nights. The season also coincides with Nepal’s biggest festivals, Dashain and Tihar, adding a rich cultural experience to your journey. As this is peak trekking season in Nepal, it’s wise to book early for accommodations and guides, especially on the popular ABC trek from Ghandruk (managed by company).

Winter (December – February)
Winter is also getting popular amongst the travellers to trek from Ghandruk to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) as we get to experience snow capped mountains and snow on the way. Trekking in Winter offers quiet and peaceful trekking experience on the Annapurna Base Camp trail, ideal for those who prefer solitude. The skies are often clear and crisp, providing excellent views of snow-covered peaks. However, temperatures can drop significantly, especially above 3,000 meters, with freezing nights that require proper winter gear. Winter is best suited for experienced trekkers who are well-prepared for cold conditions and want to avoid the crowds.

Monsoon (June to Mid-September)
Journey to ABC is not so much advised during the rainy season because of the potential for landslides, leeches, and slick routes, particularly in lower elevations. Clouds and fog frequently block out mountain vistas, which reduces the enjoyment of photography and scenic pleasure. For botanists or adventurers with the right rain gear and patience, however, the scenery turns breathtakingly lush and green, providing a singular experience. Even while it's not the best option for most hikers, it might be worthwhile for those seeking a peaceful, off-season Himalayan experience.

Meals & Accomodation for Short Base Camp Trek in Annapurna

In Annapurna Base Camp Trek there are tea houses and lodges all around. And almost all the lodges provide different kinds of food which are of good quality as well as normal accommodation options during the trek. As we will be trekking in high altitude there will not be any lavish provisions for fooding and lodging, however it is possible to get local delicacies to western cuisines during the trek. During the peak season it will not be easy to get the accommodation during the trek, so for better service and hassle-free journey to Himalayas, book with Asian Adventure Treks, we will pre book and ensure to make your holiday memorable and pleasant.

Some Common Symptoms

  • Dizziness or fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Difficulty sleeping

Most trekkers feel the effects (if any) around Deurali (3,200m) or Machapuchare Base Camp (3,700m), as oxygen levels drop significantly beyond these points.

In case such symptoms occur; we can adopt following measures:

1. Ascend Gradually

  • Even on a short ABC trek from Ghandruk, follow a well-paced itinerary with proper acclimatization - Avoid rushing from lower altitudes straight to base camp.

2. Hydrate Often

  • Drink at least 3–4 litres of water daily to stay hydrated.

  • Avoid alcohol and too much caffeine at high altitudes.

3. Eat Well

  • Have carb-rich meals for energy.
  • Don’t skip meals even if you lose your appetite.

4. Stay Warm

  • Cold can increase fatigue and suppress appetite — dress in layers and protect your chest, head, and feet.

5. Listen to Your Body

  • If you feel symptoms, rest, don’t ascend further, and inform your guide or group.
  • Do not sleep at a higher altitude if symptoms persist.

A. Medications for altitude sickness:

  • Diamox (Acetazolamide): Prevents and reduces symptoms. Start 1–2 days before reaching high altitude (consult your doctor first).
  • Ibuprofen or Paracetamol: For headache relief.
  • Ginger, garlic soup, and local herbal teas: Natural aids used by local guides and teahouses.
