Pikey Peak Trek - 9 Days Detailed Itinerary

The itinerary can be customized according to your duration of holiday. Similarly, hotel can be upgraded or downgraded depending on your requirement.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our correspondent who will assist with your transfer to the hotel. Once checked in, we will arrange a pre-trip meeting where we will brief in short about the trek, answer any queries you have and meet your trekking guide as well. After the short brief, you can relax and spend rest of the day at your leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

This day after having early breakfast in the morning around 6 am prepare to begin the journey to Dhap which takes about 8-9 hours (234 km) from Kathmandu. 

The road trip to Dhap continues along the BP highway offering scenic views of hills, rivers, Sunkoshi River and Nepal’s country side. Dhap lies in the Okhaldunga district of Eastern Nepal. Dhap is the main trail for Pikey Peak Trek, a peaceful rural setting before starting the trek. Stay overnight at lodge in Dhap.

Today is the first day of Pikey peak trek. Today after having breakfast in the morning, preapre to trek towards Jhapre which takes about 5 hours of walking. 

The trek begings from south of Dhap walking through the descending trial for about 2 untill Sigane village. Walking ascending trial from Sigane for about 3 hours you reach Phokte Danda. Jhapre is very close to Phokte Danda. You will reach Jhapre for lunch. 

Jhapre is a small Sherpa village which offers peaceful atmoshphere, and mesmerizing views of Mount Everest, Numbur Himal, Mount Baruntse, Mount Makalu, Mera Peak and so on...Stay overnight at lodge.

Today is the most important day of the trek. After waking up early in the morning hike to Pikey Peak from where we can see spectacular views of sunrise and Everest range.

In the early morning, after hiking for about 1 hour straight uphill you will reach Pikey Peak. From the top we can see spectacular 360-degree views of Mount Everest, Makalu, Mount Lhotse, Mount Nuptse, Thamserku, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, Mount Baruntse, Mount Makalu, Mera Peak, Numbur Himal and many more. After enjoying the sunrise from Pikey peak, taking pictures and celebrating the success prepare to descend back to the lodge in next 30 minutes.

After having breakfast in Pikey Peak Base Camp, start to descend towards Junbesi which takes about 6 hours. Today after walking gentle downhill and straight trial you reach Junbesi from the Base Camp. 

Junbesi is a traditional Sherpa village enriched in Sherpa culture and traditions. We can see resemblance of Tibetan, Buddhism, monasteries and so on. You can visit Thupten Chholing Monastery, one of the historic monastery of Solu here in Junbesi. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day after having breakfast in the morning prepare to descend towards Ringmo which takes about 5 hours of walking. 

Today's walk will be along the gentle uphill trial through the rhododendron forest and peaceful Sherpa villages, offering occasional views of surrounding peaks. On the way you will pass through different Buddhist landmarks: Chhortens & mani walls. 

Ringmo is a small village known for its tranquil setting and welcoming teahouses. Upon arrival in Ringmo you will have lunch and then go to explore around Taksindo which takes about 1 hours uphill. Here you get to explore one of the biggest Tibetan monasteries and enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature and return back to Ringmo. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day after having breakfast prepare to descend towards Phaplu, last day of the trek. Today's trek will take about 4 hours of walking. 

Today you will walk straight ascending trial in Rhododendron Forest to reach Phaplu. On the way you will pass through different Sherpa villages, forested hills, terraced farmlands and so on. Today's walk is scenic and offers cultural richness of the lower Solu region. 

Phaplu is a well-connected village with a small airstrip, comfortable lodges, and road access—making it the endpoint for most Pikey Peak Trekking. Phaplu is the settlement of different ethnic communities like: Rai, Limbu, Sherpa and Magar. Also, it is the district headquarter of Khumbu. Stay overnight at lodge.

This day after having breakfast prepare to return back to Kathmandu in private vehicle which takes about 9-10 hours. You can enjoy the scenic view of hilly terrain and pass through different villages like: Ghurmi, Okhaldhunga and Khurkot on the way. This overland journey is a great way to experience rural Nepal and unwind after completing the Pikey Peak Trek. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Enjoy your last day in Kathmandu before departure. At your scheduled departure time, our correspondent will pick you up from the hotel, transfer you to the airport, and bid you farewell with warm hearts.

Permits Required For The Pikey Peak Trek

To trek to Pikey Peak in the lower Everest region, you’ll need two main permits:

  • Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit (GCAP): This permit is required as parts of the Pikey Peak trail fall under the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, which helps protect the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
  • Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) – This permit is used to register trekkers for safety and record-keeping. However, in recent times, TIMS are not so much used, incase not needed only 1 permit is enough to do the trek.

Best Time for Everest Pikey Peak Trek in Nepal

The ideal time for the Everest Pikey Peak Trekking is during the Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer clear skies, mild temperatures, and the best mountain views, including stunning panoramas of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga from the summit. In spring, the forests along the trail bloom with colorful rhododendrons, adding natural beauty to the journey, while autumn provides fresh air and excellent visibility for sunrise and sunset photography.

December is also a good time for winter trekking in Nepal if you prefer fewer crowds and peaceful trails. The weather is cold but generally stable, and the views remain crystal clear. Just be prepared for colder temperatures, especially in the early mornings and at higher elevations. The summer monsoon (June to August) is the least favorable due to rain, leeches, and poor visibility.
